Reports to: Managing Legal Director

Working Arrangements: Full time Monday – Friday

Location: Plymouth or Newcastle


Overall Objective of Role:

Shearwater Law is looking to recruit a qualified solicitor (England & Wales) to work within the marine team (covering all types of marine matters, with a focus on P&I and FD&D) conducting case reviews, case management, research, drafting legal advice and contracts, arbitration and court documents cases and advising on enforcement.

The successful applicant will handle their own caseload, promote the interests of the firm and be supported by the firm as they work towards Legal Director level.

Additionally, the successful applicant will undertake business development activities and work with colleagues to grow the practice.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Case management including case strategy, accounts queries including billing plus all compliance aspects of the file.

  • Provide first class and focused legal advice and document drafting.

  • Investigate, analyse, research, assess and prosecute cases within operational and SRA guidelines and provide proactive solutions.

  • Communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders to the highest standards.

  • Develop productive relations with existing clients and establish some new clients.

  • Engage with internal and external networks as required and promote the interests of the firm.

  • Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure effective management of cases.

  • Deal with all clients’ queries effectively to demonstrate commercial awareness, high levels of customer service and empathy.

  • Comply with firm’s compliance programme, including internal procedures and SRA and other requirements.

  • Role model behaviours and supervise junior team members to ensure growth and development of team.
